Rita Simons Memorial Scholarship

Northside Lethbridge Dodge is proud to announce our commitment to a $100,000 scholarship with Lethbridge College. The Rita Simons Memorial Scholarship will consist of eight awards of $2,500 each to Lethbridge College students to be awarded annually. Awards will be given to students in the Automotive Services Technician, Carpenter, Electrician, or Heavy Equipment Technician training programs; one award to a student in the Automotive Systems program; and three awards for students in any program with a focus on First Nations, Metis, or Inuit students, mature students, or students who are single-custodial parents.
Rita Simons was grandmother of Lethbridge Dodge General Manager Russell Gallant. We have created this Memorial Scholarship in her memory, to support students in following their dreams. The scholarships will be awarded to students who exemplify the qualities that Rita possessed- a strong work ethic, dedication to community involvement, and a passion for caring for others. Rita came to Canada as a child from her native Holland as a war immigrant. Although education was very important to her, because of post-war family circumstances and the mindset of the time she was only able to complete grade 8. However, after raising her family Rita returned to school at 55 years old to receive an education in health care. She graduated with honors, and with her determination and new education, she forged herself a new life and was very successful in her career. Despite life’s hardships and adversities Rita had a zest for life; maintaining a positive attitude, helping out in her community, and always loving a good joke.
